Right to Thrive Advocates for the Right to Food in Myanmar in Submission to UN OHCHR

Right to Thrive (RT^2), a dedicated non-governmental organization focusing on monitoring and reporting on economic rights, has submitted a statement to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food addressing the escalating food insecurity and human rights crisis in Myanmar. This submission comes as part of Right to Thrive’s commitment to advocating for the most vulnerable populations worldwide, following a recent call for input by the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food.

The submission highlights the severe challenges faced by Myanmar’s population, including the systematic denial of food access by the ruling military junta. It underscores critical issues such as:

✅ Lack of available mechanisms to facilitate food systems transformation
✅ Knowledge sharing about the cultivation and preparation of local food
✅ Civil society organisations and sustainable national food system

The submission calls on the international community to recognize the critical role of civil society in Myanmar and to support local efforts to build equitable and sustainable food systems. The organization also advocates for mechanisms to hold those accountable for human rights violations, including their role in exacerbating food insecurity.
